Islamorada is a village that covers six of the Florida Keys region. It’s home to several museums and the Theater of the Sea marine show is located there too.
Photo – At Mile Marker 82 in Islamorada the Hurricane Monument was dedicated in 1937. It was constructed to remember the “Great Hurricane” of 1935 on Labor Day. It was a Category 5 storm and destroyed most of the buildings in Islamorada. It killed many people including a lot of workers on the railroad being built to connect the Keys to the mainland. Because of that hurricane the railroad was torn up and never rebuilt.
